Ancient Destructions and the Archaeologist

Peter ‘Mungo’ Jupp is the author of the series. He is an Australian archaeologist with a passion not to follow traditions in archaeology. Peter does not think archaeology involves being ‘thrilled’ by dusting off broken pots and bones. What drives him is a passion to ask questions about civilisations and huge constructions that were suddenly smashed and just ‘disappeared’ from the face of Earth. He also questions how cosmic interference affected out planet.

Peter Jupp majored in Archaeology at the University of Melbourne and also attended the School of Creative Arts at Melbourne University where he studied film making techniques and production. Jupp’s inquisitive nature, and dedication to the mind’s love of logic and beauty has led him into an area of passion that seeks answers from many disciplines. Hence he has also studied Earth Sciences, Biology, Mythology and Art at a tertiary level.

In earlier years he studied Applied Chemistry at RMIT, and later lectured in Medical Imaging at the Sydney University School of Radiology. The resulting culmination of knowledge in areas such as magnetic phenomena, chemistry and biology, as well as ancient history and mythology, powerfully informs his unique slant on archeology.

This keen interest in the life sciences has given Peter ‘Mungo’ Jupp an unusually broad based understanding of the human journey on our planet, and lends a fascinating edge to the storyline of his films. His sense of humor, musicality and creativity enrich these documentaries…. thus they are at once entertaining and informative, alternately seducing and provoking the viewer into fresh questioning of our human and cosmic history.

Peter ‘Mungo’ Jupp’s quest to explore the truth is unending.

I’m a lucky man!

I’ve got to indulge my passion!

Since my early days I’ve been fascinated with the rise and fall of civilizations.

Everywhere we go around the world we see shattered ruins, abandoned in deserts and lying buried under sand. We are compelled to ask ourselves WHAT HAPPENED?

Now the answers are not found in our school text books. No one teachers us about ancient Greek, Roman or South American civilizations any more. We aim to correct that. We aim to fascinate you with the stories of lost civilizations.

Our first mystery is Baalbek, City of the Gods. This is our number one in a proposed series of twenty-six films investigating ANCIENT CATACLYSMIC DESTRUCTIONS. Mankind has not always been as fortunate as we are today, enjoying relatively mild modern environment. Is man in control of his destiny? Or is nature? We’ll reveal the truth. We aim to overturn some aspects of modern scientific dogma from Darwin and his natural selection, to Einstein and his theory of relativity. In particular we strike hard at the theory of uniformity which has dominated so much of Geology and Evolutionary Theory. In my view a disciplined chaos runs the universe.

Above all we aim to get you to question our past and not let the dogma of our universities and schools go un-probed. These films are unashamedly documentaries. They are not Indiana Jones. But they do aim to explore and fascinate.

We warmly invite you to e-mail any suggestions and responses.
